Hideaway RV Resort, Myrtle Beach – April 16-19, 2026
This was a joint camp-out with the Winnebago Club. We had 13 rigs in total, which included: John & Linda Marano, Charles & Janet Goding, Joe & Geri Galloway, Greg & Barbara Nicholas*, Gary & Barbara Lyons, Don & Betty Elliott, Jon & Barbara Simmons, Joe & Doris Horton*, Richard Stanton & Jackson, Walter & Deborah Moore, Tim & Dottie Keppler*, AND… Rene & I
*Patti & Dale, guests of Joe & Doris
*Cindy & Guy Sorensen, from Virginia, guests of Greg & Barb
*Mary Ellen & George Higgs, from Johns Island, SC, guests of Tim & Dottie
Thursday: saw everyone arriving in the afternoon at various times. Some even arrived a day or two early. Geri had suggested gathering at 7pm in the activity room for everyone to meet for light refreshments and a game or two. Betty brought out a fun puzzle complete with a small ‘B’ style camper in a beach setting complete with surfboard, forest animals and tropical drinks. I handed out a sheet of paper to everyone containing a Treasure Hunt list of 98 common items that I found in my camper (I had 100, but feather and comb appeared twice). Everyone was under the Honor System, with the chance of a challenge close by, to prove their bounty, |/|/ide toothy grin, heh-heh.
As they were leaving to go to dinner, I gave Jon Simmons, a cylinder maze game that Rene, printed on our 3D printer. It only took Jon, 20 minutes to figure out the correct path – all completely from FEEL because the maze is inside the cylinder. I’ll be sure to bring the cylinder maze game to the next camp out because it is quite a fun and challenging puzzle to solve! No cheese was involved (I think, guess we will have to ask Barbara ).
Rene introduced a COLOR sorting game we found online. Where under the keenly watchful and eager eyes (and oftentimes elevated voices) of spectators, you are on the clock and timed to sort out 4 different colored rings (blue, green, red and yellow), and quickly place them correctly onto their corresponding pegs. There were three levels to the game: easy, moderate and hard. From Thursday to Saturday, players were able to try their skill against the clock. Tick… tick… tick… it sounds so much louder in your head doesn’t it or am I the only one??? Each day the pattern got a little harder and by Saturday night after everyone had had their turn the winners were announced.
Friday: On our own during the morning. Rene and I made a mad dash to Walmart. I wanted to make meatballs for our pot luck dinner, but forgot the meatballs at home! AUGH! Geri had planned an ice-cream social and Book Exchange at 1pm and I wanted to hurry and get back. Barbara Simmons and I worked on the puzzle a bit after ice-cream. It was starting to come together, the border was complete and the surf board could almost connect. Barbara Lyons was doing really well at the color sorting game, and she was getting competition from Tim Keppler, Walter Moore, Charles Goding, Richard Stanton, and even Rene! I’m so thrilled that people enjoyed playing it.
We enjoyed having as our guests for pot luck; Patti & Dale, with Joe & Doris Horton, and Cindy & Guy Sorensen with Greg & Barbara Nicholas, welcome!
Geri had placed at each place setting a Word Search puzzle of Sweet Treats to help aid with getting us ready for dinner. We found everything from strawberries and cookies to even aplepie! The person creating the puzzle must have been hungry too because they ate the extra ‘p’, get it? As in ‘P’ea? I know, yawn…
Time for dinner was finally called, my stomach had been reminding me for the past two hours that I was already late and it was getting quite demanding. There was SO MUCH food, I’m getting full now just remembering all the dishes and EVERYTHING was so delicious! I will admit though, Charles your ribs were my favorite, although my meatballs came in a very close second. I must say that our club does eat very well during our camp outs. You can never say you went away hungry, and if you do, well then it’s your own fault.
We had a 50/50 raffle drawing, which really equates into a 50/25/25 remember this was a joint campout, with that being said, Congratulations to Barbara Borg! Our 50/25/25 winner of $ .00 , she said that it had been years since they had last won the drawing (unlike some people we won’t mention ) After we all helped clean up, we headed for home around 10:30 or so.
Saturday: On your own during the day. Rene and I started out early, heading towards an auto parts store. We purchased a new towing hitch at the rally in Perry and needed to find a longer safety harness. News got out that Hamrick’s, the department store, would be having a really good sale Saturday only, so I wanted to be sure to go. Rene and I both bought 2 pair of Sketchers shoes. They are so comfortable and we saved 40% off each pair! We also stopped at a couple of our favorite antique shops we always visit when frequenting the Myrtle Beach area. We never did make it to Bonnie’s New To You, but we will save that for next time. Once back at Hideaway, it was time to freshen up and get ready because everyone would be leaving the campground by 4:30 heading to Driftwoods Steak & Seafood for dinner. The early bird special includes a beverage of choice (non-alcoholic) and a desert. It really is a good deal for $13.99. Around 7, we all gathered back in the activity room for our final night of fun. The moderate and hard levels on the color sorting game were busy getting their times filled in while everyone handed me their Treasure Hunt findings. For the Treasure Hunt, we actually had a tie between Tim & Dottie Keppler and Guy & Cindy Sorensen. They each received a Treasure Chest kit to put together along with some goodies to eat.
The results of the COLOR Sorting Game are as follows:
Easy Level – with a blistering time of . . . 1:08.28 Tim Keppler
1:12:21 Rene Bollengier
Moderate Level – with a super blistering time of . . . 0:40:08 Barbara Lyons
0:41:70. Tim Keppler
Hard Level – with a meteoric blistering time of . . . 0:37:16 Tim Keppler
0:38:50 Charles Goding
After we all helped clean up and put things away, we gathered at the Simmons camp site for a ‘solar’ powered camp fire. We really didn’t need the heat from a real fire because it was warm with temps in the 70’s that night. It was just a nice finishing touch on a fun camping weekend with good friends. Thanks for the laughs and the hugs, safe travels everyone. Where are you headed next? Rene and I are heading to Indiana by way of Ohio to a Freightliner Rally in Elkhart, Indiana in just under 3 weeks. I am hoping to drive at least ¾ of the way!
Next Club Outings:

Sept 10-13 Palmetto Cove, Cleveland, SC. 864-836-6221

Oct 1-4 Pine Ridge Campground, Roebuck, SC 864-576-0302
Dec 3-6 Barnyard RV Park, Lexington, SC. 803-957-1238
Until we meet again, may you always travel on dry roads with the sun at your back and a smile on your face with your eyes firmly on the road ahead.
